Midland Aquaphiliacs Callout – Arts Nation
Midland Aquaphiliacs is a photographic exhibition with recorded interviews by Jake Oldershaw. It is one of the pieces that forms part of the Arts Nation West Midlands programme.
This piece has Jake seeking out people living in Britain’s most land-locked region who have a picture of the sea in their home and story relating to the picture and what their links to it / memories of it are. He is putting out call’s to Black Country residents via internet / tweets / facebook and local press for participants.
The image could be a photo, poster, tea-towel, tapestry, drawing -it doesn’t matter what foem it takes as long as it’s of the sea / sea-side, is in the persons home and they can share a story about why it’s there and tell Jake where it is.
There are currently about 10 people who have agreed to take part in the exhibition and as such will meet Jake, have their sea- related story recorded and their portrait taken by him to feature in a final exhibition at Wolverhampton Art Gallery from 26th Feb through until end of March. Participants will also be invited to a special reception event at Wolverhampton Art Gallery in March to view the work and meet the other participants & artists from this exhibition and some of the other events in the Arts Nation Programme.
HOWEVER Jake still needs to meet more aquaphiliacs who could join in and help fill the lovely walls of Wolverhampton Art Gallery’s beautiful new Atrium space.
